Omoyele Sowore has been arrested by the Nigerian government for planning a protest in the eve of the New Year.
A former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has been arrested for protesting.
Omoyele Sowore was arrested in company of other activists during a protest against the Nigerian government in the early hours of Friday, January 1, 2021.
The protest was organised in Abuja.
According to Sahara Reporters, police officers attacked and arrested the protesters during a peaceful procession to mark the New Year in Abuja.
Deji Adeyanju while confirming Omoyele Sowore’s arrest called on police to release him.
His tweet read: “PROTEST can never be a crime in a democracy, tyrant Buhari free Sowore now.”
Sowore before his reported arrest had on his Twitter page called for a nationwide crossover protest against President Buhari’s government.
His tweet had read:
“How about a Cross Over Protest/Uprising tonight? Anyone willing to participate?”
